Despite being crowned Miss Teen USA 2003 and Miss California 2009, Tami Farrell is not your typical beauty queen. Hailing from the small town of Phoenix, Oregon, Tami grew up as a tomboy on her parents’ farm with two brothers, a horse, pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs and a cat. It was here that she learned the value of hard work and never giving up on your dreams.
Just like the rest of us, Tami admits that self-assurance hasn’t always come so easy, but it’s her positive outlook on life that gets her through. As she puts it, “The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of understanding who you are. God doesn’t make mistakes. There will never be another you. Celebrate the person you are.” No wonder she won Miss Congeniality!
Overcoming self-doubt has indeed paid off. In addition to her crowns and modeling campaigns, Tami has starred in and written several short films. Now you can catch her on Inside Beautiful each week hosting interviews, makeovers and tutorials with top beauty experts.
But don’t think for a minute that success has gone to her head. Tami knows just how important it is to stay grounded, and she isn’t afraid to make fun of herself… by telling us about the days she used to sing in country music contests: “I thought I was very fashion forward with leopard pants and a leopard cowboy hat. I also had some glitter jeans at one point and a cow print hat.” You’ve gotta love a girl who can own up to her fashion faux pas!
As Tami’s style has evolved over the years, her beauty secret weapon has remained the same: WATER. “It enhances your skin, hair and nails and gives you an inner glow. When I have beauty campaigns as a model, they actually put it in the notes that we need to drink lots of water on the days leading up to the shoot.” Her advice: Next time you want a beauty boost, grab a glass.
